Spaulding Lake Outfitters offers bear hunts over bait and with our hounds, we maintain up to 70 bait sites over 240 square miles of Northern Maine Wilderness.
We offer first class accommodations and home cooked meals; all of our bear hunts are based out of our Umcolcus Sporting Camps located in the great North Maine Woods, our lodge is based directly in the middle of our bear hunting territory, our travel time to bait sites averages 10-20 minutes, traveling to far means later to back to the lodge after the hunt, it also means hunters become very tired over the course of the week.

Spaulding Lake Outfitters has been bear hunting this area for years we know our vast territory well.
Our Registered Maine Guides love what they do, and it shows in results. The work that goes into bear hunting is sometimes overwhelming, we start as soon as the roads dry up from our spring thaw, visiting every bear site clearing brush that has fallen over the harsh winter, checking our tree stands, checking our barrels, as soon as we reach the last Saturday in July baiting bear for our bear hunts starts and we open up bear sites with trail mix, cookies, pastries etc. We feed bears we do not just bait, this is very important to keep the bears eating well.
We also invest in our equipment, typical ladder stands can be very uncomfortable, we need you to be comfortable and still to be successful for our bear hunters we make sure the ladder stands are safe and comfortable. Also, game cameras we invest in game cameras, this equals success we study bears the whole month of August before you arrive, we want to know where the biggest bears are feeding, and what time they are feeding, how many bears are feeding at any given site?? The only way to know is game cameras they make a difference in bear hunting.

Spaulding Lake Outfitters offers Trophy Maine Moose Hunts from our lodge for WMD Districts 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11. We also offer remote Trophy Maine Moose Hunts in WMD Districts 1 and 4. Districts WMD 1 and 4 are very remote areas of Northern Maine and logistics can be a problem without proper planning.
At Spaulding Lake Outfitters our clients will experience whitetail hunting the way it should be. Our clients have a choice of stand hunting, stalking, or tracking trophy whitetail deer. Northern Maine experienced extremely harsh winters in the years 2007 and 2010 effecting our deer herd. Our deer herd as rebounded nicely in the last several years and our Northern Maine bucks are once again thriving. Northern Maine bucks can achieve weights of 200-300 pounds and can have antlers scoring 150 or better.
Northern Maine is well known for our grouse hunting. Our thick cover, and miles of logging roads sustain a substantial number of roughed grouse and woodcock, making Northern Maine an ideal upland bird hunting area.
